The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan has claimed that these children had consumed cough syrup ‘Doc-1 Max’ manufactured by Noida-based Marion Biotech. Harris said, “There is no problem from our side and there is nothing wrong with the investigation. We are working from last 10 years. We will look into it after the government’s report comes. For the time being, the manufacturing (of the drug) has stopped.” According to the ministry, chemical ethylene glycol was found in a batch of syrup during laboratory tests.

Sources said that the Drug Controller General of India has sought more information regarding the incident from the Uzbek regulator. The Central Drug Regulatory Team of North Zone and the State Drug Regulatory Team jointly inspected, in which samples of medicines were also taken.

The death of 70 children in Gambia earlier this year was linked to cough syrup manufactured by Haryana-based Maiden Pharmaceuticals, after which the Haryana-based unit was shut down for violating manufacturing standards.
